Properly exposed HDR images actually have less contrast when reduced to a LDR image (all images on this site are LDR). That's why tone mapping and local operators are necessary to exaggerate local contrasts and reveal detail. Also why it is so easy to ge

Hmm, I think, that HDR is just useless in this scene, due to low contrast (no shadows or light sources). With a single shot you will get similar results.
